Chianti Riserva DOCG Vigna Vecchia Borgunto — The Excellence of the Historic Vineyards of Arezzo

The Vigna Vecchia is the flagship wine of the Borgunto Agricultural Company: it comes from the oldest vineyards of the estate, with over thirty-year-old vines deeply rooted in the clay-limestone soils of the Aretini Hills. The deep roots, the low productivity of the old plants, and the typical temperature variations of this area ensure an aromatic concentration and complexity that young vineyards cannot replicate. Each bottle is the result of decades of patience.

Grape Varieties

  • Sangiovese 89% — structure, lively acidity, cherry, and sweet spices
  • Canaiolo 5% — softness and rounding of tannins
  • Trebbiano & Malvasia 8% — aromatic freshness and elegance

Aging

  • 12 months in French and Slavonian oak barrels — development of complexity and tertiary notes
  • 6+ months of bottle aging — integration of tannins and aromas
  • Final maturation in the medieval cellar at Via Borgunto 7, Arezzo
  • Minimum 24 months total — DOCG Riserva requirement met and exceeded

Organoleptic Profile

Intense ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose: sour cherry, pomegranate, dog rose, with tertiary notes of cinnamon, licorice, and vanilla from wood aging. On the palate: dry, full, harmonious, with well-integrated silky tannins and lively acidity. Long finish with returns of red fruit and spices. Aging potential 5-10 years from the harvest.

Food Pairings

Florentine steak IGP, Chianina roast, stewed wild boar, game, oven-roasted lamb, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, ribollita, aged Tuscan cheeses. Serve at 18-21°C after 30-45 minutes of decanting.

750ml vs Special Editions

The standard 750ml bottle contains the same wine as the Magnum (1.5L) and Jeroboam (3L) editions — same wine, same vintage, same cellar. Larger bottles evolve more slowly and develop greater complexity over time. For everyday use or a prestigious gift, the 750ml is the ideal choice. For special occasions or collection, the special editions offer an even more exclusive experience.
