Chianti DOCG and Chianti Riserva Toscana: Artisanal Wine from the Arezzo Hills
The Chianti DOCG and Chianti Riserva from Borgunto are born in our vineyards among the hills of Arezzo, in the heart of Tuscany. Made from Sangiovese grapes (min. 80%) and native Tuscan varieties, following DOCG regulations and sustainable methods, our wine embodies the authenticity of the Colli Aretini terroir.
The Chianti DOCG Borgunto offers a fresh aromatic profile, with notes of cherry, violet, and bitter almond, perfect with pappardelle with wild boar, grilled meats, or Tuscan pecorino cheese. The Chianti Riserva, aged for at least 24 months in oak barrels, develops complexity: ripe red fruits, tobacco, licorice, and a pleasant spiciness, ideal for accompanying braised meats, game, or moments of contemplative tasting.

How Chianti and Chianti Riserva DOCG are Produced: Tradition, Rules, and Quality
Chianti DOCG and Chianti Riserva are among the most representative wines of Italian viticulture. Produced in the heart of Tuscany, particularly in the hills of Arezzo, Siena, and Florence, Chianti is born from a rigorous process that combines centuries of tradition, respect for specifications, and artisanal care at every stage. At Borgunto, we grow the grapes directly in our vineyards in the Colli Aretini, guaranteeing complete traceability from bunch to bottle.
Chianti Grapes: Sangiovese and Complementary Varieties
The Chianti DOCG production regulations require at least 70% of the grapes to be Sangiovese, Tuscany's signature grape. Local varieties such as Canaiolo Nero, Colorino, or small percentages of Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia (in historic blends) are also added. At Borgunto, we select only grapes from our vineyards in the Colli Aretini, facing south on clayey, mineral-rich soils—ideal conditions for slow, aromatic ripening.
Winemaking: from the DOCG regulations to our cellar in Arezzo
Chianti winemaking follows the precise rules of the DOCG regulations: controlled fermentation, prolonged maceration to extract color and noble tannins, and rigorous quality controls. In our winery in Arezzo, each batch is processed using sustainable methods, without winemaking manipulation, to preserve the identity of the Tuscan terroir and the authenticity of the fruit.
Aging: the difference between Chianti and Chianti Riserva
The main difference between Chianti and Chianti Riserva lies in the aging period. While regular Chianti ages for at least three months in barrels, the Chianti Riserva DOCG must age for at least 24 months, of which at least three in the bottle. This process gives greater aromatic complexity, structure, and aging potential. Our Chianti Riserva Colli Aretini is aged in French oak barrels, acquiring elegant notes of sweet spices, leather, ripe cherries, and licorice.
Why Chianti Riserva Borgunto is an excellent wine
Produced in small quantities, with grapes from select vineyards and artisanal winemaking, our Chianti Riserva Colli Aretini DOCG embodies the essence of Tuscan wine: elegant, authentic, and rich in personality. Perfect with roasts, game, or aged cheeses. Each bottle is numbered and certified, with full traceability from vineyard to table.
